Program: Basic concepts of ecology: species richness and diversity; ecological principles applied to agriculture: diversity and its effects on biomass production and productivity, in the management of spontaneous plants and pathogens; tropical and subtropical soils: organic matter and nutrient cycling; implications of agroecosystem designs on ecological, agricultural and economic sustainability: consortia, agroforestry systems, livestock agriculture integration, livestock agriculture and forest integration; importance of microorganisms in agroecological systems: nitrogen biological fixation, mycorrhizal fungi and pathogen management; physical-chemical and sensory quality of the food; changes in nutritional and sensory composition in different production systems.
