Presentation

The Graduate Program in Agroecology and Rural Development (PPGADR) was created in 2006 as a pioneering program dedicated to researches supporting the development of sustainable food systems.

The concept of Agroecology crosses academic fields and social frontiers as it is simultaneously a science, a set of sustainable practices and a social movement.

Thus, the objective of the PPGADR is to develop knowledge within an innovative interdisciplinary perspective in relation to food systems, food, fiber and bioenergy production, and the development of rural territories. To this end, PPGADR researchers incorporate in their research knowledge that originates in several areas, interrelating technical, economic, social, political, environmental and ethical issues.

PPGADR is dedicated to training professionals committed to the understanding and application of concepts and methods proposed by Agroecology, equipped with an effective scientific and technical base that supports an integrated and interdisciplinary vision in the pursuit of sustainable rural development.

The graduates of the program must be able to produce and disseminate scientific knowledge and develop agroecological techniques / processes, contributing directly at the scientific level and indirectly at the political, economic, socio-cultural and environmental levels, for the implementation of agroecological systems of agricultural production. PPGADR graduates are also qualified to subsidize the formulation, planning and execution of public policies for rural development, in order to promote socioeconomic and environmental development in different territorial instances, mainly focused on family-based agriculture.
